Roland TR-707 (sync questions)

Post by philip » Fri Sep 07, 2012 1:24 am

Just can't figure out:

1) how to make it work as a master device with Sonar, so the 707 could change the tempo of Sonar project and control start/stop?
2) how to make it work as a slave device with Juno 60, so the Juno could cange the tempo of 707 and control start/stop?
3) When I syncing 707 with Sonar it can only recieve notes but cannot send, so I can't record in midi what 707 is playing!?
4)Just red in manual:" In the MIDI sync mode there is no signal output from the DIN"!!! WTF?????
So tell me folks how to work with 707+Juno 60 chain in this case?? I thought I could contol both 707+Ju60 with Sonar, but now I just think I need some advice.

PS - I want to work with live midi only, where everything controlled by Sonar as a midi sequencer. Don't have retrofit for Ju60 yet.

1. Set up Sonar to use external MIDI clock.

2. Juno cannot output its arppeggiator clock, therefore cannot master the 707's clock.

3. I'll have to read the manual, but the 707 should be able to output MIDI note information because I have heard of people using the 707 as a pattern sequencer for other drum machines, synths and smaplers.

4. Set Sonar as master clock, 707 as slave clock. Program a pattern of rim shots and use the 707's trigger out to the Juno's arp clock input. I'm pretty sure the 707 must be in song mode in order for the trigger out to work, but I'll have to double check.
