DX7 Serial Number info
Is there any I can find out when my DX7 was made according to the serial number? My number is 96555, so I would guess around '85-86.

DX7 serial numbers?
Really?
I don't mean to be snotty or anything but this strikes me as an all time low.
Why? Because they cranked 'em out by the thousands. My DX serial is probably 3,789,236,014.
Not much difference in the builds. A 7 is a 7.

the early dx7 from sn 11111 to 25678 produce warmer/fatter sound

You're just saying that because you're one of those 102,000 DX7 owners...nothing but trouble, the lot of you!zukskywalker wrote:Curious? Not me.

@OP
I've had assorted Yamaha gear with a little sticker on the back that has two letters and then two numbers. It seems to indicate the year of production, and I think the factory.
Here's one on a DMP7:

I've found them on both DX7IID's I've had, and both said "KM87". I also had an RX11 supposedly from 1984 and a TX81z from 1987. I don't remember seeing one on my old brown DX7 but I never checked.
On the flip side, I've seen a lot of Yamaha gear without that sticker as well. Wether it peeled off or was just never put on I don't know.

Re: DX7 Serial Number info
My DX7 is #108101, it was purchased new in Dec 1985, so it would have to be made sometime in 3rd or 4th quarter '85. Your DX7 would probably be between late '84 to mid '85.bigman2005 wrote:Is there any I can find out when my DX7 was made according to the serial number? Re: DX7 Serial Number info
Mine's 17217, which would presumably make it about early 84? Maybe even 83, though I can't remember exactly when they came out. It spent it's early life belonging to an organist in the far north of Lancashire, where it presumably accompanied rousing renditions of the Bacup Black Pudding Song.
