Prophet 600 droning

Post by syntheticsolutions » Tue Dec 25, 2012 11:29 pm

I have touched on this previously however, did not really get the problem diagnosed.

My prophet 600 has been acting rather strange, when editing presets in real time, the patch would freeze very easily and therefore the pots and switches would have no further effect, sometimes it would jump back into action with a minute or so, sometimes it would just stay like that.

The freezing issue has now stopped :)

The problem I am having now is a constant drone from the synth. The droning usually starts to occur when I either switch from preset to manual mode, switch preset number or engage arp, sequence etc.

The drone plays the previous 6 notes played and is at about 10% of the maximum envelope volume. This is really starting to drive me insane as it is my most used synth yet is the most unusable

If anyone has had similar Prophet 600 problems, please help me out or alternatively, if anyone knows of other places of interest such as SCI forums, that would be great too.

Merry Christmas

Did you check cables and connections between the boards yet?

I had a problem with my P600 where none of the switches or pots worked.
The keyboard and membrane keypad worked fine, I just couldn't change the sounds.

In my case it turned out to be a problem with J304, the connection between the left control panel and the computer board. The threads of one of the cables were broken near the connector on the computer board side.

Your problem could easily be similar to mine. Specially if you've been opening and closing the synth more than a few times, putting more mechanical stress on these poor 30-year-old el cheapo connectors than they can handle at this point.

Yeah, I have checked all of the connections and they seem fine.

My revision is a 6-07.

Apparently, this was a rare, buggy ROM. I am considering taking a risk and upgrading to the 6-08 however they seem to be exclusively available to wine country and I can not prompt a reply from them.

Does anyone know of any other sellers?
