Best Way to Sync JU-60 Arp to DAW
It seems that there are many ways to sync the arpeggiator to external sources with the Roland Juno 60. Right now, I'm trying to figure out the best way to sync the arpeggiator to a solid bpm in Reason/Ableton. Any ideas?

Unless you wanna send a trigger pulse out of your audio interface, I'd avoid it and pick up a midi to DCB interface.

if you often use your daw with the juno i shall recommend this:

i use a midi to cv interface like a kenton pro solo or my doepfer one as well. instead of just using a straight clock, its more fun to make a midi channel and make different patterns for the arp to follow by drawing in note patterns. i did just that today and the fun, swingy rhythms were endless. just the dcb thing is cool, but it gives you more of a straight arp option vs getting to program the arp into a more interesting thing.

The most fun method is without a doubt using a midi-synced TR-707 and using the rimshot/trigger out to clock the Juno's arpeggiator.
This way you have a lot of flexibility. You can use the 707's step sequencer in sync with your DAW or you can use the 707 in midi-in mode and record more elaborate rimshot patterns to send to the Juno.
Plus, the 707 and Juno are a perfect couple, soundwise.

and you can do the things condit79 was talking about above this way too.Alex E wrote:send a trigger pulse out of your audio interface

Sexor, could you please explain how to do that? I tried a couple of times but couldn't recieve any midi signal from 707!Sexor wrote:The most fun method is without a doubt using a midi-synced TR-707 and using the rimshot/trigger out to clock the Juno's arpeggiator.

You don't want to receive midi from the 707, you want to plug the rimshot out into the arp clock in.

Exactly what Stabby said.
It's either:
DAW --- midi clock ---> 707sequencer ---> rimshot trigger out ---> Juno clock input
or:
DAW --- midi notes ---> 707 as midi module ---> rimshot trigger out ---> Juno clock input

This, by the way, works for countless other devices which accept clock pulses.
My favourite combo is TR707 -> SH101 sequencer
Also fun is the Pro-One sequencer, Jupiter-6 arpeggiator, and CS10 trigger input, in combination with 707 pulses.
Korg is a bit more problematic because synths like the Polysix and MS20 use a different method for triggering. There are ways around it though.

You can also just sequence the contraction of a relatively low-mid frequency square wave at say around 350Hz in your DAW and send the audio (at maximum possible volume) out of your interface. This is the method I have used with all of my synths for ages and seems to be the easiest and most flexible method.
You can obtain the "square wave trigger" by recording the sound of a DAW's built in test oscillator and then cutting away the rarefaction leaving only the contraction of the wave. Alternatively, PM me and I will happily send it over.

Replicants are like any other machine, they're either a benefit or a hazard. If they're a benefit, its not my problem.
