I have an Ensoniq VFX SD keyboard from 1989 and I want it to communicate with a DAW or MIDI program but am so far having no luck. I don't really know what i'm doing. I have a brand new midi to usb cable that seems to work but I have no luck on getting any sound on my computer.
I want to somehow get the sequences from my VFX on to the computer, for playback and sharing, this may be impossible, I don't know. If it is, at the very least I would like for my keyboard to play the General Midi or other sounds that come with MIDI programs so I can create and share music that way. I'm going to have to stick to free programs by the way, I am broke.

Re: New to MIDI- Ensoniq VFX SD to computer
MIDI is data not sound. When you are sending MIDI you are sending note and velocity data. To get sound you need ea VST in your DAW to make sounds, or a separate audio hookup. Hope this answers your question.
