There is often grease applied on the tipping point of the keys of old synths. In this case it's a VP-330 im fixing.

What should I replace it with? I would think normal grease for mechanics contains acid and such, making it unsuitable for synths.

Silicon grease maybe?

What do you use/think?

Yes, white silicone grease. Be sure it's of a variety that is safe for plastics; not all are.

I use key guide grease from Yamaha which is Shin-Etsu Chemical Co. type G-30F, Yamaha p/n TX920271. It's pretty low viscosity but seems to work fine for the fulcrums and more importantly, on the key slides where there's lots of movement. Comes in a 100 gram tube (a little smaller than a medium tube of toothpaste). Not expensive as I recall.

Can be ordered online on Yamaha's 24x7 website which is awesome if you already know your Yamaha part number. I order stuff from there all the time. Have to maintain my practice of having more invested in my synths than they're worth, you know...

As I was standing washing the keys, I came to think of Vasoline? But maybe it will melt away because of the heat?
