SH-32 Arpeggiator Style sequencing

Okay...this is not really an emergency, but the SH-32 manual leaves a lot to be desired.
When sequencing a "style" for the arpeggiator on the SH-32, you can enter note data, and then save it as a style. But it won't play back the notes, just the rhythm pattern. I was all excited because I thought it might be like the sequencer on the 101, but no dice.
What's the point of entering the note data if you still have to choose a chord style or a motif which will change it anyway?
Anything I'm missing?
BTW, the 32 is way cool, even with all its funky issues...and it has the JP8K supersaw for instant late 90s trance lines, if that's your thing. Loads of fun.
