Yes, but I just have no idea where to begin. If that sax wasn't there it would be easier.

There is at least 10 seconds before the sax comes in (around 2:36 to 2:47), so it should be enough to figure out what's there. Unless you're searching for something else?

No, that's the part I'm looking for. But I am so lost tht I don't even know where to begin with it. Is it a multiple track? Something I hadn't even thought of?

Yes, this track still has multiple layers, which none is available as stand alone: it's pretty lucky that this song (and some others) are on YT with separate layers, although not to every single tracks.

The portion you want shows at least 3 subparts: the clap sequence, a pad and the spacey thing. I don't know how to create any of the 2 synths sounds that are merged in the "space pad" mix, so you're pretty much on your own there... First, you shuold learn about the kind of synths used by Nick Rhodes at the time (most likely both Jupiter 4 & 8 on this precise part), and then see if your own synths can recreate a similar sound. What's your gear?

I only have some soft synths-- all of those that are packaged with Logic Pro, all of the arturia classic synths, and some other plug ins as well. I'm sure one of those will get the right sound. I was thinking it might have been the prophet 5. The spacey wail is the specific sound I'm after.

I can't help you with those soft synths... But maybe there is some effect added to the sound?

On second thought, I do feel like there is a ressemblance with the intro from "Night Boat". Maybe it's a reprocessed excerpt?

Good luck with your project!

Years later I know but in the interests of anybody with a similar question doing some research.....

The spacey sound is a Jupiter 4 preset 'voice' layered with a synth string pad. As somebody mentioned it is indeed also used via a slow arp on the beginning of 'Nightboat'.

Weird to read some of my old contributions!

The strings layer must have been from a Crumar Performer then...
