DX7 trouble with patches
I've recently got a Roland UM-ONE usb to midi cable. I also have a DX7 MK1 synth.
My problem is that i got a CD that came with the synth when i bought it off of craigslist. Im trying to put either a new bank into the synth or even just 1 voice. Nothing is working so far.
I have used every a lot of the programs that you are supposed to use (midiox, soundlib, midilib, dxmanager [trial]) and my dx7 is still not accepting them.
I will tell you what i have done so far.
-Turn internal memory on synth OFF
-Turned the system to AVAILABLE
-Midi channel is 1
i just let it sit on the last thing i touched. Not sure if you actually have to go back to a certain menu to get it to work, but that's what ive done for the synth part.
For the programs, ive tried putting a whole bank into the synth using midilib. no response from the synth.
ive tried using midiox. no response.
ive tried extracting one voice from a bank using soundlib then send it through midiox. no response...
ive been looking up guides and searching forums for 5 hours then i got fed up and stopped.
If anyone can help it would be much appreciated!

Re: DX7 trouble with patches
I think there is a sysex receive parameter that needs to be set to on. If you have that, maybe try to find a baud/transfer rate setting and slow it down. Sometimes the programs are sending too much too fast.
*transfer rate in the computer program

All the other programs but midiox don't have that function. Ive messed around with midiox speed settings and still nothing :/

Re: DX7 trouble with patches
First, initialize a voice (soft button 10 "voice init"). Then make sure you hear anything (should be a pure sine, so make sure you monitor loud enough).
If that works, continue with trying the sysex... It's a bit cumbersome and hit and miss on the DX7...

Good, that means your DX7 is alive at least...
I always program mine from scratch, but I remember that transferring patches is a bit hit and miss. Maybe I'll find time to try it and report back during the next days..

Does the MIDI interface work for other events (notes, controllers?)

Re: DX7 trouble with patches
i can see the notes (keys) it plays and use it as a controller for the virtual keyboard on midiox
but only if i put the midi out from the UM-ONE to the midi out on my dx7. Even though the manual for the UM-ONE says to put the midi in from the UM-ONE into the synth.
Unless the manual is wrong :S
This is my first time with any program for music or midi anything

Re: DX7 trouble with patches
There's a few adapters that badly label their plugs - my Midisport 1x1 has plugs labeled "TO MIDI OUT" and "TO MIDI IN" indicating which connectors on the synth you're supposed to hook them into, even though just about every other piece of MIDI gear in the universe labels its connectors by which direction they send the signal. If your "out" plug plugged into the DX7's "out" jack acts as an "in" for the computer, they probably botched the labeling in a similar way; try plugging your "in" plug to the DX7's "in" jack.
