IKEA floor to ceiling shelves for Studio Setup

Post by sol-bass-rec » Sat Jun 21, 2014 7:53 pm

Has anybody used these shelves for recording arrangements of their gear? STOLMAN.

These shelves are 23" wide and 19" deep
They also have 44" wide.
Flat shelves, drawer/drawer cabinets and my favorite the shoe rack with the shelf stop thing in the front.

Nothing stopping me but someone who has done it and hated it. I had a Moby/Drum Machine moment long ago but I'm even more tempted as my room gets crowded.

I think it's brilliant, especially the 43" wide shoe racks.
flat shelves for all my boxes up top and 1 drawer/drawer cabinet for cables, manuals and such.

thank you and your welcome, if I'm just sharing this idea for the first time.

Been there done that (and even posted here a video of some DJ doing that at home).

Wobbly as leafs in the wind (especially the shoe shelves). Even if you attach the poles to the wall with all the additional holders that come with it, you still don't get it firm enough. The reason is there's just one mounting point on each side of the shelf, so it pivots mercilessly.

You can use that for just storing the gear, but if you want to play it - forget that. Tried that with my JD800 (15 kilos plus the well-known hard-to-push aftertouch) - started with a shoe-shelf, and then the regular one, and then got back to my beloved cheapish Quicklock (or is it a ProAudio? no matter) 2-level stand.

You can maybe try using a box/frame like this, less the inner separator boards - that gives four mounting points, so it sits on the poles a bit more firmly than any of the shelves, and does not tend to rotate.

I don't like the drums, but the drums like me!

If you search for Stolmen on Ikeahackers there's got to be some useful ideas there.

The two DJ setups come to mind (1, 2); neither uses the floor-to-ceiling posts, and both uses something more stable as a base. Maybe that's an option for stuff you want to play.

thanks I can't believe I even forgot to think on that.

I do have 7 of those little laptop lap risers that are the plastic version of those shoe racks. Can't beat them for $3.00a pop

I thought I seen those in his videos. With his collection too... Awesome shot. Maybe in the next studio. Have to make some money in the current setup... been too trigger happy. Got the trigger locked up for now.
