Yamaha MR10 drum machine?

Post by WhinyLittleRunt » Sun Sep 14, 2014 4:04 am

I recently was given a bunch of old Yamaha gear to play around with and in the bundle was an MR10 drum machine. I had seen them before on the web but never really knew anything about them. Well, it's a pretty cool machine, even though not very practical as-is. Sound is similar to a TR-606 from what I recall when I owned one.

Anyway when I got it I opened the battery compartment and the batteries had been left in there since the late 80s, corrosion everywhere. Fortunately, it didn't look like anything hit the board, and when I plugged it in it worked just fine. Then after it heated up a bit, the rhythm selector switch stopped working. Then, the start/stop button no longer worked. I was hearing the hi tom with the snare (but I don't recall if that was always like that). I took it all apart, checked the chips with some cooling spray and nothing immediate was showing. Doused the entire board with deoxit, including the button panel which doesn't come apart... Sprayed it all off, same issues with the start/stop (stuck in play mode) and now the rhythms don't work. I'm really not sure how to diagnose this thing, and and may not even be worth the trouble, but I'm starting to guess it all revolves around the proprietary CPU or whatever it is.

I have one, but don't know where to begin with that problem.
