Hello,
My Roland JV-880 suddenly began displaying an "Internal RAM Read Error". The patches are all screwed up and I can't even access the Utility menu (nothing happens when I press the button) to perform a factory reset. The local repair shop wants $70.00 just to open it up and as much as I love the unit, I'd hate to put that much money into it only to hear that it's not repairable. Anyone have any thoughts on what might have happened and/or what I can do?
Thanks,
Bruce

Re: Roland JV-880 not working
That's actually the first thing I thought of and replaced.
I also uploaded a new patch to the unit, which replaced all the D bank patches. It's a wonderful collection of newer Roland patches like the grand piano, Rhodes, vibes, etc. It's from patchman.com but it's also gone from the memory. I'm thinking something happened to one or more of the onboard ICs but I just can't imagine what I might have done. And not being able to access the Utility menu is probably an indicator of a deeper problem.

Re: Roland JV-880 not working
Yes. As I mentioned in my posts, the Utility menu is not accessible so a factory reset is not possible.
Wow, I really thought I'd find some help here.

Re: Roland JV-880 not working
You may have an additional fault- the Utility button needs cleaning, re-alignment or replacement. There's a slight possibility that you could send the reset command via MIDI- check the MIDI spec in the manual.

That's a viable option. Thank you. I have a good friend in Dublin, Tom Scarff. He's the MIDI genius that helped me develop velocity sensitive MIDI on my Hammond. He makes all kinds of cool MIDI add-ons and encoders, seen at midikits.com. Know him?madtheory wrote:You may have an additional fault- the Utility button needs cleaning, re-alignment or replacement.
