Weird shape of Yamaha TX7

Post by HappyFunTimes » Sat Dec 26, 2015 1:26 am

I'm thinking about getting a TX7, and was wondering if anyone knows why it is shaped so strangely. It also has holes in it; I would assume for mounting. It looks like it was designed to be stacked one on top of another or something, or like there's a special case that they could be inserted into. Does anyone know something about this? I can't find anything online.

It is a desktop module. I have 2 on top of each other. They are a pain to stack due to its design.
Later their modules became 19 inches like other brands eg TX-81z and TX-802

Forgot to write that if you get one remember you need software to program it. There are free programs on the net. Eg. Dexed, Dr muller dx7 prog. There is one more for free, but forgot the name. You can just check out the DX7 sites on the net. It is a great synth.
By the way dexed can read and play sysex files. It is a software DX7.

Cheers

I quite like the wedge shape and their solid feel. I have a TX7 sitting on a QX5 and looking to add a 2nd one to the pile. It's a weird design for sure, just like their REX-50 effects processor.

It seems like there should exist special hardware to put in the holes to stack them properly, but I've never seen this. Otherwise wtf are those holes for. And it's flat on top except for that lip. Makes no sense. I have a dx7 to control it, so no worries there.

Look at the sequencers Yamaha was selling at the time...same shape. It was for stacking.

Today we're back to desktops again except now you can't even stack the darn things
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.
