Connecting USB controllers to vintage synth 5 pins

Post by ShadowImage » Fri Sep 23, 2016 6:00 am

Hello,
How can I connect newer MIDI controllers which only have USB connections to older vintage synth modules which only have 5 pin MIDI connections?

For example I want to use Keith McMillen K-Board (mini USB) to control my old KORG TR-Rack (5 pin MIDI). Do I need some kind of adapter like the iConnectMIDI or is this not even possible? Thanks for any help!

Assuming that you dont want to use a computer, the solution is a midi usb host like this :

Amazed that the McMillen MIDI Expander works with all his stuff except the K Board :banghead:

Great, that is just what I'm looking for. Shame they are so expensive but if that's what it takes...
I have four MIDI controllers, a Carbon 49, a KM K-Board, a Studiologic SL-990 and a Arturio Minilab; would they all work with this Kenton MIDI USB Host to connect to the TR Rack?

They have to be USB class compliant. Read the manuals to see if they are.
