Hello, need assistance with MIDI connections please.

Hi everyone, first post here. Forgive me, but I'm not the most technical person. I have a simple setup that I can't get to work, despite reading the MIDI help on this forum - and others.
My gear:
Roland XP-10 synth
Roland MC-50 hardware sequencer
Roland JV-1010 module
I want to play the module sounds with the synth, and record it/play it back with the sequencer. I'm not interested in the internal sounds of the synth, as the JV-1010 sounds better for my needs. How do I connect this?
Thanks, and apologies if this is a dumb question!

Try it this way:
1) Hook the MIDI Out from the XP-10 to the MIDI In of the sequencer.
2) Hook the MIDI Out #1 of the MC-50 to the MIDI In of the XP-10.
Turn off MIDI Thru on the sequencer. I think it defaults to off in the MC-50 when using MIDI Out #1 instead of #2, but double-check this. Play the XP-10 and (even though you don't care about its sound) make sure that playing the XP-10 sounds right and the sequencer can record a sequence and trigger the XP-10 properly when the sequencer is played back.
If that works correctly, then:
3) Hook the MIDI Thru from the XP-10 to the MIDI In of the JV-1010.

Thanks Rasputin. For the most part, your suggestion worked.
Connected as you advised, I am unable to trigger the internal sounds of the JV-1010; rather, only the XP-10 sounds are audible.
Perhaps I need to turn off local control on the XP-10?

2) Hook the MIDI Out #1 of the MC-50 to the MIDI In of the JV-1010.

Thank you both. I connected it as follows - based on your suggestions:
XP-10 Midi Out to Midi In of MC-50
MC-50 Midi Out #1 to XP-10 Midi In
MC-50 Midi Out #2 to JV-1010 Midi In
I also factory reset the XP-10 and JV-1010 to ensure the MIDI parameters were back to normal. I may have inadvertently changed something over the years.
With this setup, I can now play and record to the sequencer in real and step-time with no issues with playback from the sequencer either.
Now if I can just figure out this dang Emagic Logic program, I can finally be up to 1998 technology...
