If you're into metal, Mustis from Dimmu Borgir used the X5D almost exclusively on two albums. Enthrone, Darkness, Triumphant and Spiritual Black Dimensions.

Here's a live clip featuring this synth

Crystal, is the 01/w the same sound engine? i was amazed that this little basic rompler could make such deep sounds!

not really, even both are AI2 synths..but the X5D is based on the X series (X3 plus some samples from the PCM cards and more polyphony). The X3 is kind of a consumer version of the 01/W when it was released. It didn't have the 01 waveshaping feature but have more multisamples instead. but as in the rompler tradition, more multisamples is not always a good thing..could be more compressed rom material, which is oftenly reducing the "openess" quality of the samples. Also I feel that the 01 have a better sound quality compared to the X. but there are certain depth and animated quality that I also adore from the X series compared to the 01 which oftenly sounds more in your face. If you like the X5D, look at the N1/N1R or N5ex those supposed to be the pinnacle of the X engine legacy. or simply get the X5D. I'm keeping the 01 not because it can replace the X5D, but because both share some the AI2 goodness and relatively almost the same type of sound character.
