two 303-ish tries from my Monomachine

Post by killedaway » Thu Jan 24, 2008 7:21 am

some folks on the Elektron Users forum were discussing 303-styled synth sounds. i've tried my hand at some and while they're not dead-on, i think they're in the neighborhood. i figured i'd post 'em here as well:

first one -- the distortion gets turned up around 30 seconds in here.
second one - the distortion comes on around 40 seconds in, and i start wrenching on the filter knob at about the 1 minute mark.

sorry for the crappy quality and clipping. i just slapped these together sorta "quick and dirty". everything you hear is the MM, of course. anyone think i came close?

The clean in the first one doesn't sound that close to my ears, but it seems closer when teh distortion kicks in. The second was really good I reckon. :thumbright:

I'm with Stabs. The second one is more 303like. I think it has something to do with the resonance sweep... but when the distortion's on, either of them sound a lot like a distorted 303.

But who wants to make a clean 303 sound anyway, clean 303 sounds like arse. :D

The tweaking is tasteful, but I don't really like the melody on the second.

well, it was really just for demonstration purposes. you won't see it on my next album or anything.

GRRRRRRRRR

Awesome clean 303:

auuuuh!

And yeah, I like the 2nd one more also.
Actually those both sound rather similar to basstation, without the distortion.

cool tweaking there, the distorted part sounds nice and TB-ish. I like the second demos better.

thanks, everyone!

the second or third day i had the MM, i realised that something about the filter sounded quite 303-like, so i decided to try and take things a bit further. it's nice to know that you can buy the Monomachine and inject a little Bassline without having to go out and buy anything else.

i agree that the second one is a lot closer. i recorded the first one and decided it wasn't as close as some previous efforts, so i continued to tweak the same patch until i arrived at the new demo.
