just listened to the updated version
very very very pop.
reminds me a bit of anything box's album 'worth'
you should make the vocals a bit louder, they are too low
overall this sounds like a good start though!
your voice isn't half bad either, but you should try to get a bit more into it, you sound a bit bored singing it
you either have to be really detached, or into it, the in between usually sounds cruddy
keep it up though man, its got a lot of potential!

Nice one OJ, like the second version more with the intro. Just thought the snare was a bit big/heavy for the track. Keep at it though, would be good to hear your final recording of it, think it's a good catchy track.

I personally prefer the original as well. But I'm not saying the updated version is bad at all, I like it too. Just the original catches me more with the more clean sound. (Clean in the sense that each part is distinct and not much layering.) Usually I'm a sucker for layering. Still, you did a good job and should continue on.

Thanks again for all the comments guys. I probably won't be recording any more until I sort myself out with a Pro Tools rig in the near future as I've found FL Studio not to be the best tool when dealing almost solely with audio.
To address a few of the opinions:
Joey - thanks again for the feedback. I agree the vocal performance is far from the best but it's quite hard to sing well in a crowded environment with background noise and distractions. At the moment I'm working as a volunteer assistant at a local recording, studio so maybe if I ask them to let me overdub the vocals when the track is ready I'll have access to a Neumann mic and, more importantly, a better environment to record in. So I'll let you know how I get on with that.
JMP - good to see you deem the new version as a step in the right direction too. To be honest I wasn't at all happy with the drums in the original demo and feel the drum samples I'm now using are much better. Maybe I should lay off the snare a little, but it's a such a great 80s sound that I feel it fits right in with the track. I'll ask others if they feel the snare is a bit too much though - I'm not adverse to change if everyone feels that something it out of place.
As for all who preferred the original version - I do realise some of the clarity has been lost but I prefer the gelling and the depth of the new version, which is still far from complete. I do believe it's much closer to sounding like I really
want it to though.
Regardless of your feelings, any feedback is good feedback. Thanks again guys!

A little update now that most of the tracks have been finally rerecorded into Pro Tools. I sure have noticed a huge difference in fidelity using the 001 and Tool over the X-Station and FL Studio - the whole track sounds much brighter and more defined without a doubt.
Anyway, you can find the most recent iteration
here.
Some new parts have been thrown in too, just trying out a few ideas I guess. Obviously the drum pattern needs to evolve a little, the vocals need work and watch out for that f in "familiar" - it sure jumps out. Might have to duck that a little or adjust the EQ or compression to compensate.
Any feedback (
especially constructive criticism) is more than welcome!
