"Tropical Nightmare" - a very different tune..

Post by TrondC » Sat Nov 22, 2008 11:15 am

okey dokey, the response to my last MC808 teack (Seizenheim) was rather quiet, so here's something even weirder ;)

"Tropical Nightmare - The Thing In The Coconut" is a strange shuffled breakbeat journey with lurking chords and drunken memories of a warm, dark beach, surrounded by psychedelic moths and red eyes shifting in the shadows..

(haha wtf am I saying?)

like my last track, it's made on the MC-808 only (it's quite the workhorse if you are patient enough, which I was only 3 times during the 10 months of owning it..)

one pattern, one live take, no post-recording editing exept some slight EQ.

MC808->Edirol UA 1ex-->Reaper

strange, huh?

(edit: myspace sure know how to make a track sound worse..)

thanxboth :) I'm very satisfied with this tune, but it's probably not the kind of music I'll be making in the future. The MC808 was good, but ultimately too much a pain in the a*s to use properly for me to keep it. making good breakbeats on the thing was a breeze compared to the electribes I've used..

your breakbeats could use some serious work

they just sound like a bunch of plastic one-shots strung together--there's no cohesion.
god elton can't you suck

well, making better breaks that I'd ever be able to on the ESX anyway.. I just used the onboard "Jungle" kit on the 808, editing, even for that one break in this track, took forever and it still didn't come out like I'd like it to.. Or maybe I just lack a natural sense of rythm, I never managed to make convincing breakbeats on the ESX, but atleast I got closer with the MC808.. any tips? I'd love to program a good amen break (rather than just sample it), but no matter how much time I spend, it comes out very artificial-sounding..

thanx for listening tho :)
