Story
Simon Paradis was was born in a tiny rural town in Canada, near a swamp. He went there when he was a kid because it is said that there was magic operating there at night. Rising from underneath the murky waters, a big tent would emerge, housing a circus. Through the cattails and the moss, a grand festival would take place until dawn. This is the soundtrack to their gig, just take a seat on some dead trunk and enjoy.

Ok so I recorded this mostly in Quebec City between September 2007 and May 2008. The drums on Swamp Casino and Swamp Circus were played by Olivier Lebel, and recorded at his studio. The electric guitar on the last song was played by Pascal Morin, my fellow bandmate from Metric Madness.

The mood is trippy, excentric, over-the-top, psychedelic and progressive. But it's also very cinematic and moody. I think. Maybe.

What bitrate are you using for the free download? It seemed like the MySpace versions were a bit warmer.

Care to share your equipment list used and recording equipment?

Lots of plugins like Minimogue, Garritan Orchestra, Mini Erhu, Dsk Brass, amongst others, SFZ and lots of soundfonts, freesound samples, a Fantom X7 that I got along the way, and last but not least a Fender and a Godin acoustic guitar with a cheap computer mic. For live drums I know it was a Pearl drum from the 70s, but I don't know about the mics used. The electric guitar in the last was a 7-string Schecter (!!!)

Bandcamp is 128kbps for free downloading. It was probably higher on myspace, yes.

Sorry about vocals, this is instrumental all the way, but I think it's already very expressive so I don't think it needs vocals. Thanks again!

What's not to like?

The whole "carnival" ambiance is great. I've never heard anything quite like it! My wife thought it was really lovely as well.

this is brilliant! psychedelic in a very cool way reminds me of Kaada, but not as dark. if you like this Carbon, you should check out "Seid", their two albums go into this very similar territory, very cool indeed and this is an awesome album, I'm buying this !

oh, and what gear did you use?

Thanks for the comments. I have checked out Kaada a bit, but didn't find much except that he worked with Mike Patton, and since Mr Bungle was an influence for this album it probably makes sense.

For the gear, I listed some of them in my first reply, but unless you want really to know where specific sound came from, I can't remember every VST used. There isn't a lot of gear used, it's not something I was interested in at the time. For the next album, the list will probably be more interesting for synth lovers.
