"Do you remember that day (in 1969 when you asked what I was going to do with the rest of my life?) is a melodic New Age style piece.
The idea came from a barely remembered conversation at the age of 10 when I was asked by my friends what I was going to do with my life. I had grand dreams of living in California.
Nursery rhyme motifs repeat through the music, starting with a musical box. The music, as life, is through of some twists and turns, but overall this is a hopeful and happy track, the childish skipping rhythm continues to the final heartbeat.

Mainly soft synths but a fair amount of Korg DVP-1 for both choir sounds and the vocoder. A microwave 1 appears for a second or two.

Your description made me think I was going to hate it, but I actually quite liked it. Nice one, keep me guessing.

Re: Melodic New Age - Do you remember that day?
Thanks guys.
Actually I got the "New Age" label in the mid 80s, I didn't think it fitted then. Any suggestions for categorising this style?
I hadn't heard of rebelski, I have now! thanks

Sounds great! I'm going to have to fire up my DVP-1 now. When I was getting into electronic music in the 80's, all the records and tapes were classified under "New Age", I always hated that term. When people asked what music I likes & wrote, they thought I was into all the crystals and stuff, too.
I think the "ambient" term is used more loosly, too. I don't really like stuff that is "truely ambient."

Re: Melodic New Age - Do you remember that day?
thanks. yes it's great how labels change.
New Age used to mean people like Steve Hillage..ambient was Brian Eno..I also remember a guy that had an "ambient" music that was just one continuous note on a casio keyboard. Funnily enough, never heard of him again.
Z, you are not Ben by any chance are you? If so I've e-mailed you too!
