Well, I dunno, I call the stuff I do "electro", though I understand that the term is equated with Cybotron and the like. Electroclash was a big influence on me, but at the time I called it electro as well, "electroclash" always sounded way too cheezy, kinda dumb. I guess I define "electro" as subtle, danceable, disco influenced, yet a bit futuristic electronic music. Would that be terribly wrong?

I think with modern music, most people think of electro as being very dancey type stuff... and like you said, the original idea of electro was cybotron, etc - drum machines.. and futuristic synthscapes - the whole idea of being futuristic, what things would be like in the future, machine-souls, etc. (later developing into techno)

this song, going from what I know - I'd say it is more synthpop type stuff.. information society comes to mind but I don't know alot of synthpop..and even that is kind of more dancey than this..synthpop is kind of more traditional 'song' style than the original electro - more about being a song, rather than being some kind of transmission from robots from the future. and not as clubby/dancey as the modern idea of electro, which is kind of just a more synthetic variant of house/breaks.

I guess you could say it might fall somewhere between synthpop and some of the more synthesiser-based indie type stuff going on at the moment.

Wow, that makes perfect sense. :) I could edit the thread title, but that would probably just confuse new readers, so I'll leave it as it is. Thanks for clearing things up! :D
