Funny how things happen. Several years ago I heard a parody of a musical piece on Prairie Home Companion. Intrigued, I tracked it down, and discovered Philip Glass. Often incorrectly classified as a minimalist composer, he characterizes his work as "music with repetitive structures," which fits well with sequenced eletronic instrumentation. Some of my favorite compositions are in the soundtrack to the film "Koyaanisqatsi." I recently tried my hand at transcribing the opening segment on my rig, and came up with the following live piece:
The piece was sequenced using Cakewalk, using user patches on the D-50, DX11, and Massive. The throat singing chant was done with the Akai vocoder with keyboard set two octaves down. (I could never get that low!) Still need some work on that.

Re: Philip Glass
sounds pretty good.
PG is one of my all-time faves, esp early compositions like EINSTEIN, MUSIC in 12 PARTS and MUSIC WITH CHANGING PARTS.

I also like PG's music, beautiful cover there. I didnt like the lead sound too much, its like dentist's drill.

Re: Philip Glass
LOL! Well, that's easily remedied. It wasn't my first choice, but I ended up thinking the first sound I used there was too wavery. Maybe I should have just gone with my gut . . .

Re: Philip Glass
So I re-recorded the Philip Glass cover I originally did a few weeks ago, tweaking the vocoder and getting rid of the dentist's drill. I also cleaned up some of the slop in performance and did a little post-tracking processing. The result is a little better, by my ears. Criticism is a good thing.

Re: Philip Glass
Super! The bassline and vocoder are great and the lead also much better.
