Kebu - To Jupiter and Back (album medley + VIDEO trailer)

Post by kebu » Wed Mar 28, 2012 6:52 am

Finally, my debut album is ready!! The album consists of music made only using vintage analog synthesizers recorded in the old fashioned way using only sequencers, tape machines and analog mixers. Here is a medley of songs from the album:

Here is a video trailer for the album:

My album will be released on the Secret Entertainment label as a digipack CD and mp3 downloads. The Finnish release date is 2.5.2012 and the international and mp3 release date is 8.6.2012. The album can be pre-ordered now for 10 euro/dollars (ordinary price 11,95):

Hi Kebu could i just ask, as ive a feeling that your quest has finally arrived, how much roughly you may have spent in
equipment over the years to achieve your goals.

Heh, that is a LOT! Tens of thousands of euros since I started my "hobby" (more like a half-time job) in 1995. But I started working on my own album just one year ago. Before that I've played keyboards and mixed in many different bands.

Yes, I've kept track of all my expenses, and only bought used synths. Fortunately, the price for vintage synthesizers has slowly but steadily gone up, so I would get most of my money back if I sold everything now. But that won't happen - as long as I have a daytime-job (knock on wood)... ;)

I haven't had time to reflect over my album much, because immediately when the album was done I had to start concentrating on preparing for my mini-tour in May. It's really challenging to figure out how to perform the whole album live and practice both the playing and sound changes. Also, I need a couple of more tunes! But everything is going according to schedule so far. In Summer, I'm going to take a well deserved break. And then we'll see after that what happens. 8-)

looks like you use the juno a lot...im into cabaret voltaire sound and they used the 60.

im struggling to understand how you get an arpeggio pattern to play a pattern that has high and low notes
in the bass line that follow each other,as the arp only gives you up down up/down.

i understand how it plays a chord pattern. up or down.

if you fire it off with the trigger from a drum machine, you will only get the juno triggering off the same note.
creating a bass line fair enough, but it can sound very boring after a while,i might want a high note followed by a low note in my bass line. how is this done.

do i need the jsq60 to do this sort of thing.....any help would be appreciated.cheers

Hi,

When you have the arpeggio triggering to a rhythm you cant add octaves to the arpeggio (1 or 2 octaves) and combine that with the up, down or up/down alternatives you will get interesting patterns, although you just play one note.

Got my copy yesterday.

Man, this is really REALLY good Kebu!!

Best new album I have had the pleasure of listening to in quite a while. Listened to it like 4 times last night!

Excellent job!!

One question, probably a silly one, but what kind of phaser are you using on your string machine, and how do you get it to sync up so nice? Your sweeps are so perfectly timed with the beat, I'd love to be able to do that in my own stuff.

Thank you! I'm very glad to hear that you liked it!

I'm using an Electro-Harmonix Small Stone phaser on the string machine sounds. It is just running free, but I did take a few takes of each song and chose the best takes for the record. Fortunately, the phaser is just so good sounding that most of the time it sounded perfect. But I remember one song in particular (Lullaby for Heidi) I had to take a few takes just to get the phaser right, because there it was quite important.

I figured that was it. I also use a Small Stone.

Can't wait to hear more from you!
