Mellow Synth Pop (MG-1, Monotribe, Casio, Circuit Bends)

Post by GoodwillFalcon » Wed Sep 26, 2012 12:18 am

This is a new song we just finished for our record. Its a pretty laid back groove that features:

Korg Monotribe (w/ Altitude MIDI mod) making a shockingly thick bassline (single-tracked!)
Realistic MG-1 on leads
Casio MT-100 for chords
Yamaha RX-21 drums
and additional circuit bent clock radio/tape recorder by my bandmate.

No soundcloud plugin because its a hidden track, didn't wanna release it yet.

Hope you enjoy this little preview cut. I recommend listening with headphones and da lights down looow. :hifi:

Is it just me, or is the soundcloud plug not loading properly for this? It's just blank with no waveform and won't play.

Same here. I hit 'quote' on the original post and dug out the working link: http://snd.sc/OoC9Yp (hope this is OK with you GoodwillFalcon)

Nice track. Possibly trying a bit too hard to ride certain trend waves, but it's still cool. Maybe you could try a version with the drums twice as fast (I think 'double-time' is the appropriate muso term), for a more classic synth-pop vibe?

Really good stuff. I"m digging a lot! Listening to your other tracks right now. Really liking "The Story of a Commuter". Keep up the good work. I'd buy a record from you if everything is up to this level.

Nice. This isn't the same mix you sent me, is it Carter? This sounds better; the bleepy bloops fit in much nicer. Really dig the vibe you guys have going. Keep 'em coming!

Only thing I would say on the mix, the lead seems maybe a bit loud on the chorus, kind of steps on the vocals. Other than that, sounds great.

I love that bass. Still can't believe that is the monotribe.

Thanks for the feedback, guys! I appreciate you listening.

Optimus, yes! I love that album, I remember being really excited when I realized that they used that beat. That little groove can be found on so many of those old Casiotones. That's an interesting thought to do the faster beat, would definitely be worth a try, but I just feel like that swanky bass line really begged to chill with a half time beat.

Cody, This is an updated mix, although I forgot that I did want to try that panning automation that you suggested.

Personally I prefer the slower beat. I like the pace it's at.
