Saw this at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA (USA) yesterday.
Ten Gibson Les Pauls and four Gibson Thunderbird basses are hooked up to amps with onboard digital delays. The birds (zebra finches) land on the strings creating random music. Water and bird food are kept in overturned cymbals on the floor.

Birds Making Ambient Guitar Music!
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.
