Juno 60 problem with chorus stages

Post by orys » Thu Mar 22, 2018 6:27 pm

Hi there!

Got this synth 5 years ago, and had it tested back then. Everything seemed to be ok other than the trigger button that was not working. Then it was kept in storage due to other projects.
After going through a divorce and selling most of my gear in the last 2 years i took the Juno out of storage and decided to check the trigger button. It was an easy fix. Just had to remove the bender board and pull the button. After doing that and kept pressing the black part underneath the trigger button was fixed!!!
I was really happy cause i always liked the sound of the Juno 60. So i sat to try it for a while and i sadly noticed that something had happened to the chorus effect. Please note that i played the synth the night before and i was sure that there was something wrong with the chorus. It appears that the when engaged in either stage 1 or 2 there is no difference. I recall that stage 2 was a lot deeper than stage 1. Now i'm not sure whether stage 2 is always engaged and stage 1 is not working at all. If you listen carefully you can notice the phasing/ swooshing on Chorus 1 is slow, but on Chorus 2 is faster. NO difference in the sound at all though.
Please also note that we removed also BOARD A and BOARD B to clean the slider potentiometers from gunk. The boards both were very dirty. I have noticed on the back of BOARD B this bit in the photo.

Is it a factory mod or did the board get chipped with something? In the service notes i read these but i don't know if this was a factory mode or not.

I just want to fix the chorus effect on the synth.
I contacted Syntaur to buy 2 x MN3009 ICs because i thought it could be them and his answer was, "I think the phasing/chorusing should be deeper on Chorus 2, but not faster. We do not have any stock of the MN3009 chips - but the problem is more likely elsewhere. If one of the MN3009 chips were bad, you would lose one side of the stereo chorus effect. The problem is more likely the Chorus switches, or the control circuitry."

Any ideas what to do guys? What is the problem? Should i reconnect that chip on the board? Could that be the problem? Because i scratched the board a little to reveal the copper and i used a small wire from the resistor foot to where i scratched the board (exactly on the triangular shape) but it didn't seem to fix the chorus effect.

Thanks in advance and i'm looking forward to your suggestions.

Thanks
Tio
