Hard drive size limit on Akai S3000??

Post by theHUDman » Mon Jul 16, 2007 11:59 am

Hi,

I want to fit a SCSI hard drive to my Akai S3000, but have been told today that it can only accept drives of 600Mb. Does anyone know if this is true or not as I have a spare 73Gb SCSI drive that I'd love to fit to it.

Thanks.

There's no way that it will be able to use a 73GB drive.

I'm almost positive it uses FAT16 for its file system, which puts the theoretical max at 2GB.

I think the Akai OS may have further limited the drive size to 512MB (like the Kurzweil K2000).

If I remember correctly, the S3000 family will only accept drives of 4GB or less. And they'll only access 600MB or so of that space.

Thanks for the help guys, I've got a smaller HDD on order now. I've got an external SCSI drive kit, but is there any way of mounting it inside the S3000 (not XL)?

I've got the SCSI card inside it and there's an internal connector for the lead to go from there to the drive but I can't see where the power would come from as there aren't any of the normal four-wire power cables spare that the drives need.

One of the other members internally mounted a drive successfully (I think it was DX, if he'd care to chip in here). The thread should still be on the first page.
