Is it just me or does the bass line sound suspiciously like it's going through a multi-mode filter?
If you're speaking about the sound before the loud part starts, that's a very narrow pulse wave.

Maybe I should mention that I did some mixing on these tracks too in terms of equalizing and compressing, mostly attenuating overlapping low frequencies. I didn't however use EQs in a way that the basic synth sounds were heavily deformed.

Hey DocT, is your recording rig different than what it was when you recorded the PEK/MEK demos? Different coverters, A/D etc. etc.?

No, still the same. Everything going through the ADCs (some 4 of former 16 still working) of my old Yamaha 01V and a Terratec EWS 88 D ADAT interface.

Sometimes I still forget that the Terratec always forgets its sync settings when the PC is rebooted. I always have to manually set the clock master/slave configuration, if I forget that, there are cracklings and noises in the recordings.

Why do you ask ?

well 2000 is expensive for me at the moment but it looks and sounds brilliant from what I can tell - I want one.

Anyone got a close up of the front panel/specs?

Since you're not familiar the MEK architecture, you are probably mistaken. It's probably the same: one knob for bank, the other for program. The buttons probably step you through both, too.

Since there are only two banks of 128 programs, I suspect the average user could manage that system without griping too much.

All the demos I've heard so far have a real nice stereo spread on the sounds. Unless the DocT and others are processing the h**l of it, I wonder if there's some DSP going on at the output? This sounds very smooth and rubbery, my old P5 is dryer than the Gobie Desert as well as most old analogs.

In some of the demo tracks I've used some reverb from Cubase and occasionally delays. EQs were also used, mostly to cut overlapping bass frequencies. I didn't use any modulation fx like chorus, phaser, flanger however.
The P8 has a pan spread parameter that can be modulated for movement. That's how the panning was obtained.
Delay can btw fairly good be emulated by using the stepsequencers.

Can we see a closer/bigger picture?

Besides the fact that I want to get a better feel for the layout and available parameters, I need new wallpaper
Best Regards, James

Dave doesn't want any of us posting any pictures of the synth until he posts them on the DSI web site.

Shouldn't be long...
