It really isn't that difficult. There is just a lot going on, on a large surface. That and no patch storage can be a b***h.

that page is great, but it doesn't quite mention all the um, idiosyncracies that the cs-30 has.... for example, cross mod doesn't work when osc 1 is being driven by the sequencer (neither does detune!)
Also, you can actually control filter 1 cutoff frequency with the sequencer, but only when osc 2 is being driven by it, and osc 1 isn't

the thing really isn't that complicated, it just takes a little longer to figure out what's doing what.

That's my page. Thanks for the nice words. I found that there were only very few pages on the web for the CS-30, so I made one. Maybe I should add some patch sheets for some of the samples.

The CS-30 has many idiosynchrasies, and I think I managed to at least mention some of them. Nevertheless, the synth is a traditional analog. It's just the interface that is semi-confusing and busy, to say the least.

I have a CS-40m along with a big heavy Anvil road case. Something fried on the board on it a few years ago. It's in Pennsylvania at my parent's house. I have the original service manual as well. Anybody want it? All you have to do is get it. I would like to see it go to someone who can fix it and love it like I did. (Sounds like I'm giving away a child).

The CS 40M guts aren't hard to get at. Just pop the hood!

More specifically, there are screw on the front and a hinge on the back. Once the screws are removed (better descriptions probably posted on the net somewhere), lift up the cover and prop it (like a car hood).

Things to look for:

1. Are any fuses burnt? If so replace them (usually $ each). (I believe there's a couple on the back so you may not have to pop the hood if that fixes it).

2. any connectors loose (mine had a couple) I simply put them back.

3. Is the internal battery fried? Probably if it's never been replaced - replace it.

Chances are, those actions will fix it up right good.

Now hook it up to another analogue synth with CV Gates etc and Bob's your auntie.

Disclaimer: I am not a tech nor tech savvy, and I'm only making 'educated guesses'.

Don't give it away - it's worth at least a $1000.

Thanks for the advice. It's appreciated. It is a chip on the board. I turned it on and all this smoke came out. Anyway, the CS40m has been claimed in less than an hour.

Mr. PA-update on the CS40m. i got her home, and popped the case open. she's gonna live eventually! (for those reading, this will have you thinking twice about jealousy over the windfall of a free cs40m). the foam rot was pretty intense; ive got pics that im gonna post up as an entire resto project when its done. got the foam rot out of the way-nasty stuff.

the smoke you saw was a comparator on one of the circuit boards. luckily, not unobtainium. a new part is in, however, its still not functioning, as the PSU is proving to be tricky. ive got -10v and +5v, but its not putting out +15v and -15v, and im having a tough time narrowing it down. im using my working one as a blueprint, so it'll be up and running sooner or later. i'll post pics when its done.

I just got the CS-15 I bought. After about 30 minutes of fiddling, I am convinced that it is one of the most versatile synths I have ever worked with. Having two separate filters switchable between high/band/low... each with variable LFO and pos/neg EG... THEN with separate VCAS and directable ENVs... all of my theorizing that the thing is insanely versatile was true.

It also has a great sound.

I'm in love.

well, I've emailed to see if it's available.

I sold one of my CS-50s for $500 a couple of years ago. $600 is a decent price for the CS-60 which has a couple more features.
You won't regret it. The CS-50 is one of my fave polysynths of all time.
