Hi Guys
I just got myself an Imac. I am moving away from the pc and was wondering what the best cheap sound card option was? Do I need an asio soundcard. I currently have an asio soundcard on the pc and a usb evolution keyboard running cubase sx. Is Logic the best program?
Cheers

Asio doesn't exist on mac, what you want is a coreaudio one, which is all mac soundcards. Which one you want will depend on budget, how many inputs/outputs/mic pres etc. The Motu stuff has really good drivers and is good alue for money, maybe try them out.
Logic is the best program for some people, other people hate it. I use it at work and it can be really frustrating when you want to just do something really simple but Logic makes it into an ordeal. Logic is expensive though, and if you're looking for a cheap soundcard you aren't going to be able to afford Logic.
Check out Ableton Live, there's a free demo available from their website and it's a decent all round program for making music. Not my first choice for recording or mixing, but it's great at what it does.

There's always a little bit of delay with any soundcard, depending on the sample buffer size. I'd try it out with your keyboard first and see if it's acceptable, rather than try and get people on the internet to guess for you.hughyg wrote:so will the soundcard in the imac be able to cope with the evolution keyboard? ie no delay on softsynths?
