I've been floating about on demos and freeware/had music mostly on hold all summer, and now that school is in and I can afford the full version of live thanks to an academic discount, I need some suggestions... I'm a big fan of darker 80s kinds of sounds both analog and digital... Think depeche mode, tears for fears, junior boys (not 80s, but still the same vibe), dangerous muse (once again, not 80s), ect.
I'm wondering what plugins I should be looking at for this, in these categories...
I'm running OSX on an intel mac btw, so all suggestions should be universal or intel-only plugs for mac... I have no preference between AU and VST, as I can use both in live...
I need one analog emulation, preference is on being blippy and capable of good bass without using unison... A minimoog emulation like minimonsta maybe... My current contenders are fabfilter twin, minimonsta, and filterscape VA...
A filter plugin. Preferably dual filters, though not a necessity, but it must be multimode... I love using external BPFs on synths. I really like the demo of fabfilter volcano and of filterscape, so getting either filterscape or a fabfilter bundle could potentially cover my first two wants... Or if I got a synth plugin with good dual filters that can be loaded as an effect.
A good compressor for drums and basses and such. Something that can be relatively transparent for general compressor duties but also can really add punch to drums and bass. Fabfilter's Pro-C seems to work rather well for this, leading me to believe that a fabfilter bundle would be an excellent choice...
A second "flavor" plugin in the compressor/tape saturator/analog-ish vein... Right now I'm thinking PSP vintage warmer... Just something to spice things up a bit here and there...
A nice 80s sounding reverb. Preferably with a gated algo as well. I'm completely lost on this one, I'm afraid I haven't really had time to research reverbs that much...
A nice delay. Preferably something capable of sounding either pristine digital or muddy and tape-ish. Right now I'm loving the demo of fabfilter's timeless... But the audio damage plugins have some neat stuff too...
A very swirly/warm chorus plugin. I'm not looking for fat unison-esque "power", but for something suited to bells and pads... I'm completely lost on this one. I like Togu audio's emulation of the juno-60s chorus (which is free), but it doesn't have a lot of control.
Any opinions/thoughts on any of these issues would be greatly appreciated... And I hope I'm on the right track...
Some suggestions...
