MPC 500
I believe I'm going to be getting one? Is it a good unit?
Comment strictly on the 500 if you please and don't offer substitutions because they just aren't gonna happen. I'd be getting an ill deal on the 500 only so i just need some feedback on that one.
THanks

I use one and love it... the menu diving takes a bit of getting used to vs. the older machines...but once you are used to it, it is so much more capable than something like a SP-303 or SP-404. Plus, it is 2lbs and battery powered. It is the most feature packed battery powered drum machine I can think of.

no, you CAN chop up samples manually, but the 500 doesn't have the time adjustment for loop samples...can't think of their terminology for it right now, but you can look it up in their manuals. just check out the 1000 in comparison. the big bros can automatically cut up a sample so that you can set that sample to match the length of a loop regardless of changing tempos. keeps the sample's pitch the same regardless of speed.

I'll give this question a try in this thread I suppose.
When you play samples on the MPC (especially instrument samples) does the audio over lap when you hit the pads? So say if you have a chopped sample and the hits run for a few seconds each, will the sustain start to run everything together, or does the sample from a pad cut out when you hit another?

there's a mono/poly button for that:thestreets wrote:I'll give this question a try in this thread I suppose.

mono = "stops" the sound (itself) thats already playing
poly = "overlaps", when you have long samples it can get pretty annoying
I know, I know:
but seriously, for $100 more you can get yourself the 1000
and $30 more you can get the JJ os, which is NUTS!

They are talking about used prices... I'm selling a used MPC500 for $425. They can be had cheaper...if you don't care about manuals, power supplies, original boxes etc.thestreets wrote:Can you have mono and poly in certain parts of each program? I imagine you would want poly for drums and mono for most samples.
Also, the 500 is $600 and the 1000 is...well, $1000. Where could i get it for 100 more?
I got recycle so i really don't see it as too much of a problem.
