Great... It seems I'm not the only on who loves the D50 down to the bones... I think it's really a "digital mistake synth"... (well seems that the jammed loops of the D50 were really a memory bank jam mistake then converted to preset jam loop)... No more D-synth were able to catch the D50 soul... no way... and v-synth card is imho close but again not like the original.

Great, great synth.

omg im so happy for all the links, patches and opinions on which editor to use. I didnt think id get such a great response. That you guys so much. Im going to enjoy trying out these sounds over the xmas hols.

Brilliant!

I would love to have that Revolutions patch bank!!! JMJ is one o my favourites....I first got into his stuff whilst driving through France in the late 80's as a kid. My parents stopped off at a service station to fill up with petrol...and my dad bought a casette tape to play in the car - it was JMJ Images. Since then Ive been into synthesizers and electronic music.

wow!

Well, to many, the D50 is famous for being Jarre's "Revolutions synth", since he used it on almost the entire album. The soundbank isn't generic jarre sounds, only the exact sounds on that album. Which are great on their own. You won't find phased eminent strings though :P

After analysing some of the weirder sounds, like the clockworks sequence in the start of the album, I thought he must have done some serious experimenting. It is one of the loops at the end of the PCM bank, only played over 2 octaves, so you get the loop in its original speed AND half speed (because samples slow down when you move down the keyboard), and it suddenly becomes this thumping rythmic thing with a bassline.

DIGITAL SCREAMS... you have the revolution sysex...

check your email... they're in the new_D50.rar file...

Sysex D50 is Sysex2K now... It was not freeware... now I don't know...

I suggest you to search the Metrasound stockausen D50 card. There are some amazing sound like RUBYCON used in Revolution (the first sound like DolbyDigital intro plus some water drops) really FAAAT sounding... I bought the syx from germany... but I'm not sure I have done a legal buy... they confirmed me they're legit... (and I kept their email) but

From DS's sig:
Korg Wavestation SR, Yamaha FS1R, Roland D50
Have I landed at Bizzaro VSE or where's this journey documented? I recall you saying that the old analogs were great but lacked the fresh sounds, but why then aren't you sporting a Prophet '08 (or for that matter, anything semi modular?).

Just asking :).

Is it possible to find these memorycard patches as single SysEx files? Im using the D50 Virtual Editor and it won't touch whole SysEx banks.

I once downloaded MIDIOX but never really tried it. I guess I need to have a look at it again. I just remember it as not so simple and was stuck in the program.

For some reason (a good reason  ) the avater isnt large enough to contain a full listing of the gear I use. Add to it Prophet 5, MonoPoly, ProOne, Jupiter 8, Andromeda A6 (Spring '08) and Prophet '08 (Spring '08). As far as analog modulars go Im currently doing my research and will try and pick up a simple modular sometime in the summer or autumn of next year.

Take a listen to Starstrings - it features some subtle JP8 strings mixed with some real strings... http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu ... D=24655371

To be honest, im currently downsizing. Im looking to keep a couple of analog poly's and get an analog modular to go with the digitals I own. I think Im quite near now to having my synth set up finalised - its taken about 5 yrs to figure out what i like, what i need and dont need. Im sure some (or most) of you can attest to this kind of journey. Its mayhem 8)

Clockworks? ;) Really strange name ;) Anyway famous machine run from overture is nuttin more than loop10 from D50. Originally JMJ used 2 layers. Second one [octave down] was detuned a bit to create fatter sound.

I've tried to cover/replicate some track from Revolutions once.

Here U can find some of them. D50 was mainly used

Revolution Industrielle 1 [6 mb]

Revolution Industrielle 2 [3 mb]

Revolutions concert edit [3 mb]

Shipyard Overture [from Gdansk] [6 mb]

Hi DS - here is a site which has them, plus a bunch of others:

ftp://ftp.ucsd.edu/midi/patches/D50/
I just found this post but unfortunately that FTP site probably has been taken offline for years now.. Do you still have those banks around? :)
