Freeware drum machine/sequencer

Post by Johnny Lenin » Fri Jan 11, 2008 5:22 am

I'm looking for a fairly lightweight freeware/open source rhythm program that I can install on my work laptop. It's just to use as a notepad to work on some rhythm ideas in those empty hours of commuting, etc.

I'd like to be able to import samples and create my own kits. Exportable MIDI files would be a plus but not essential. I use Windows Vista.

Any suggestions?

Try Hydrogen http://www.hydrogen-music.org/

It's primarily linux, but has a windows version too. Not sure how stable the windows version is though. Worth looking at to find out.

Alternatively try some of the VST drums here:

I tried Hydrogen and it's just what the doctor ordered. The Windows version is a bit buggy, but I can live with it. Thanks.

No worries :)

I hope hydrogen continues to be developed, it's a great program across all platforms.
