So, I did eventually demo the DRM1-Mk3 at Nova, and I took it home the same day. I liked its immediacy, and while the MD is a fast machine to use, the limitations and general quality of sound coming out of the Vermona guarantees it some use in the studio. Sometimes it's nice to say "Right, the drums are good enough, no more tweaking," and move onto the rest of the song. The MDUW can be a rabbit hole sometimes, and I spend more time making the Perfect Beat than I do trying to make compelling melodies.
So, with the MDUW, JazBase03 and DRM1-Mk3, I reckon my percussion needs are sorted.
