quantize as I play?

Post by Yamaharr » Sun Feb 10, 2008 8:19 pm

Hello helpers

I'm looking for something that can quantize outside the computer... i don't want to use that awful bulk that is a computer, but I would like for the notes that I play on the keyboard to not come out until on the next beat (quantized). What could let me do that?

Look for a sequencer with a quantizer. Only thing I know off hand is my Yamaha RS7000 will do it, but your probably looking for something a lot cheaper to do it for ya? There are a few ways to quantize, one is done after and replays quantized, another is processing the notes after they've been recorded, the other is while your playing. I think you prob need the last choice, you might want to make sure it does that before you buy anything and not get the quantization confused with the other choices.

i'm not at all one to push this, but it sounds like you need to look into softsynths and apps like ableton.

yeah, softsynths and Ableton would be nice.. if they were in some sort of a slick little midibox that i could connect my EmaxII to. I don't know about the Yamaha RS7000 its just not pretty to me... hmmm.. is there no magicsolution?

I think I found a solution to your problem. It doesn't cost very much, but it does take some time and effort.

Jokes aside, I don't believe that there is anything that will do this that does not involve a computer or more money than you are willing to spend.

I've never heard of anything that does this without recording it first. And having to play early to get the note out on time is slightly mad, while it would be rather awkward to make a late note appear earlier in time than it was actually played. Then again, if you've read OT recently...
