Then lo-fi it (transpose it up an octave, then play it an octave lower: works great), EQ it, then play it. It's mainly in the chords (Cmin7) and the source sound. Then, if you must, use a vintage sampler to record it and play back, but buying a synth with chord memory for it is stupid. Be prepared to deal with nice things like floppy disks, loading boot disks, small displays and other jokes. Since you already have an S950 you're familiar with this; why buy another vintage sampler?
You could even do sample dumps via MIDI since those stabs are very small - especially when you transpose them up an octave. This trick is common from the E-mu SP series drum machines: record the drums or loops at a higher speed, let the sample engine play back at a lower speed. Instant grit and fatness.
Now, if you wanted the Strings of Life piano, that's an Ensoniq Mirage factory patch.
Use what you have first, then start investing in something else.
hey yoozer, Ableton has a chord memory function...what you're describing sounds way more complicated than just using the damned thing...and you can tweak the parameters in realtime if you want to use the original filters etc...
