Well I wisely decided not to sell my wavestation. The hum from the lcd is very slight and frankly I don't think it will be much of a problem, however if things do get worse I'd still like to be prepared.
Anyhow has anybody here ever replaced the LCD screen themselves, and most importantly is it hard to do? I've been googling this for the past hour and the only site that was any help was the dan phillip's wavestation page. Finally does anybody here have any experiences order replacement lcds from http://backlights.telesisgear.com/?

I did it on my TG77 (part was from telesis btw)
If you can get the old EL strip out then doing it yourself is easy. If not, I would send it in and have them do it. On mine, the strip was just stuck on with a little bit of glue that I could have easily pried off with a plastic knife and it would have saved me hours of trying to get everything lined back up and cleaned.

I got a replacement backlight for my D-550 from Telesis. They included an instructional video on a CD-ROM to assist with the install.
As I haven't attempted the install yet I can't say how it went, yet, but I'll post back once I have a chance to do it. It doesn't sound too difficult though, if you know how to solder.
On your WS, is the only problem a hum, or is the backlight dim/out? I ask because the hum usually comes from the inverter module, not the backlight itself.

Two VCO: thanks to the push rods, one can choose several forms of waves at the same time!

I replaced the backlight on my Wavestation several years ago. It wasn't a pleasant task, virtually everything has to be removed to get at the display. If you're going to do it make notes and take photos as you dissassemble the board as it's not easy putting it all back together again. And be very careful if you have to take the display apart to get the old backlight out, it's quite fragile.
I had to do mine several times as the first backlight I received wasn't working, then the connections were reversed on the 2nd, so it was the 3rd attempt before I got mine working.
