vocaloid? fs1r?

Post by 8bit9bot » Fri Feb 29, 2008 6:50 am

is it ever going to be ported to mac os x? and are there any competing technologies that do roughly the same type of sounds?

i used to have a yamaha fs1r... the formant shaping being the most interesting part of the machine - are there any soft synths that do this type of sound?

thx

you should really get an fs1r again, they are of a rare breed of synthesizers that are truly unique. there is FS1R Editor for OS X, it's freeware, although i think the FSEQ utility has not made it to OS X. i have some legacy OS9 utilities that i've still never tried for it (i run a second OS9-bootable Mac just for old music software).

i wish Vocaloid was ported... in the meantime, KAE Labs' decidedly less-natural sounding VocalWriter is a tool that its virtually untapped by the public ear.

you can always read this right off the Vocaloid site:
Yamaha understands that Macintosh is a very important platform for use in creating music and would like to develop a Mac version in the future. However, the definite release date has not yet been decided upon.

yeah actually i was about to self-reply about vocalwriter - i was talking to a friend of mine about my vocaloid question... vocalwriter is what he mentioned - i find it pretty interesting - i actually like the characteristic of how unnatural it sounds... pretty neat

seeing your website makes me want to figure out if i can update the old how-to guide for writing music for the Atari 2600 using OS X tools.

KAE Labs has been around for quite a number of years already, i'm actually impressed at their longevity.

virsyn's cantor also does speech synthesis, but it's a little pricey.

im not sure much about the 2600... as far as the atari XL series goes... use the program called "raster tracker" for windows - i dont think any good tracking software exists (for chiptunes) on OSX - the only reason i use windows is tracking for specific game systems
