"The New CP-70?"

Has anybody seen those links that pop up (myspace, gmail, google, etc) advertising a "New CP-70" electric grand? Here is the link http://thenewcp70now.googlepages.com/

It's a tiny little mock-up of what would be a website about it, promising photos, waiting list, and info if you email them. Well, I've emailed them three different times from three different email addresses (yeah, I know, I need to calm down. the CP is my FAVORITE instrument of all time) and I've heart NOTHING back from them. Absolutely nothing.

It seems like it COULD be a great idea, trying to resurrect such a classic monster, although I admit it could go sourly wrong and piss off a whole bunch of people. Either way though, it seems like kind of a tease to go posting this information and then not following up.

It could be nothing but a tease. Not the first time something like that has been publicized. Who knows?

I've got a CP-70B waiting for me in my old home in NY. I had a Fender Rhodes before, and I elected my next electromechanical beast to be an idle (but still wonderful-sounding) electric grand. Now, if I could just get the damn thing into my apartment! I first set eyes on the thing four years ago and am so glad I could buy it. (I wouldn't mind being able to convert it into a 70M with pitch/mod transmitters.)

It's a wonder there aren't more manufacturers attempting to build true acoustic pianos with pick-ups in them. The acoustic piano doesn't seem to have lost a whole lot of steam, and just plugging them in would eliminate the need for mic placement.

I'm sure it's fake. Yamaha is the only company that has rights to that design, and they are not the kind of company to look to their past much.

I'm pretty certain you are just receiving target-directed spam.
Some spambots figure out your internet search habits and patterns, and sends customized spam to you containing words you often use.

This is most evident when you participate in CP70 groups, and suddenly get emails from strangers saying "BUY YAMAHA CP70 HERE FOR FREE!" without registering for anything. Or popups that go "NEW SYNTHESIZERS FOR FREE" etc. It's just a matter of "New <insert word here> for free! click me!" mostly. You could be infected with a trojan that registers what you search and how you move around the web, sends it to an advertiser who then automatically makes targeted popups or emails to you.

For someone else it could be popups about Levis' pants.
The makeshift website you get sent to is just autogenerated. If you search on a thing like "lindsey lohan nude b**b" in google, you're bound to see some links like "www.celebs.net/lindsey-lohan-nude-b**b/pics.html" that redirect you to a general celeb website, for instance.
