What was the cheapest Synth you ever bought?

the CS1x was a bargain-buy synth I found to have some useful sounds.

Cumulus- I'm glad to see another fan of the QS/ series.
I only own the one Modified PCMCIA card, that accepts compact flash cards. its great for editing and uploading your own sounds to the synth. however I'd love to own a couple of the original Q cards

Is it possible to clone the Q cards onto a modified PCMCIA card?

If so, you could get all of the Q card sounds.

I had bought the cs1x for that reason as well. The pads on that thing were amazing. But the tinkering process you have to go through to get anything out of it was brutal. I downloaded an editor that I never tried out. Maybe someone on the board has?

Not a synth, but I picked up a Wurlitzer 206 for $100. Actually there were 3 for $300, but my friend had $200 and I had $100. He got 2. I chopped them all to 200 form-factor (well, as close as I could get).

My CS1x would have to be my cheapest, I was bidding on it on ebay and my budget was £80, the bidding went way over this but never went past the reserve.

For some reason the seller offered it to me for £80


Nice lady, its not the best synth in the world but it does what I wanted it for, and it must have hardly been used, not a scratch or grease mark on it.

Good controllers? It makes me cringe just thinking about it. The QS7.1 has a way better keyboard. No-where near as bouncy as the cs1x.

I can attest to that. While the AN1x has a semi-weighted keybed, the CS1x has a keybed that's about the same as the home keyboards yamaha were producing in the mid-90's. Not great.

Some years ago I saw a Korg T3 advertised in the classified section of my local paper. I called the guy and went over to his house to take a look at it. He said that he bought it brand new many years earlier. The guy said that he took it out of the box once, turned it on, and played around with it for about half an hour. He decided that it was too complicated, and he put it back carefully in the original box using the original packaging. He then put it in the back of a closet, and he didn't touch it again until I showed up at his door. He unpacked it while I was there. I couldn't believe my eyes. It was essentially a brand new T3 complete with an unopened manual and disks. It was perfect. He turned it on, and it fired up. However, it would only play a piano sound no matter what was selected, that was it. I quickly realized that the problem was likely a dead back up battery. They guy said that he was hoping to get $300 for it. He was trying to clean up his house, and he thought that this thing might be worth a few bucks. I gave him the $300 and walked out of his house with the nicest T3 on the planet. I took it to my local music store, and they installed a new back up battery. I loaded the factory sounds using the disk that came with the T3, and just as expected, it was ready to go.

A minty, grey SH-101 with mod grip, PSU and manual for $100 - remember, this was in 1993 in little Winston-Salem, NC at a place called Camel Pawn Shop. It was either that or a Crumar Performer (also in amazing condition) at the same place for the same price.

Not the cheapest, since I didn't really pay anything for it - but I was given a broken TR-909 by a downstairs neighbor when I was attending Full Sail in Orlando, FL in '91. He was an R&B musician and had a "better" SCI DrumTracks to accompany his ESQ-1 chops. The 909's snare was missing the white noise burst and the tempo knob needed replacing - these I had a school lab-mate repair for the price of a couple six packs.

Ahh - back when used analog stockpiles in small-town pawn shops were basically untouched and unwanted. I should have bought more back then.
