ni pro-53 can work off qwerty keyboard. very handy for auditioning.

Yes, they are truly standalone.

Make sure you read the fine print, though...some GMedia synths will only let you save patches when used as a plugin not when run standalone (they must use the standard VST patch interface).
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.
