HELP! messed up DSI Evolver with new firmware

Post by t?ftler » Wed Jun 04, 2008 11:02 am

Hi
I tried to reinstall the firmware (vers2) of my Dave Smith Evolver Desktop and messed up the synth by doing that.
I did it as explained in the software manual, but as a result, now my evolver is like dead. knobs or potis don't work anymore and there's no sound generated.

I allready tried various times to reinstall the firmware, hoping it would function once, but it only got worse and now nothing works anymore.

please heeeelp! :sad2:

Sounds like a you will need to contact Andrew over at DSI. Their support is excellent and they should help you. It's always been one of my fears when upgrading O.S.'s that something will go wrong and my $2k synth will become a paper weight.

I know that's not much help but Good luck,

Pilot

thanks pilot,
I wanted to avoid contacting DSI directly because I did'nt know if the problem maybe was just a stupid mistake I did (I'm a newby on synths).
but well... yes. maybe it's the best to do.

still, if anyone knows what I could do I'd apreciate some help :)

They'll still help you even if it's a silly mistake, nobody judges you just cause you're a newb. Everyone was once. ;)

if you are planning to use CC with it, may be it's also a good time to upgrade to OS 3.

thanks guys

I allready contacted Andrew at DSI and it looks like I'll have to replace the processors physicaly. Than I can install the new firmware 3 and everything will be fine again.
It costs me a bit of money, but at least I've learned something for life:
"Never change a running system" :D haha!

By the way, dave smiths support is really great. and forums like this one too. thats a real inducement for beginners not to just throw away all the synth stuff when its getting wierd and complicated sometimes.
well anyway I guess I never will, because I've allready been infected with that synth-fever  that makes you "waste" so much time on that :D

thanks again,
more questions to be comming soon
