AG, how're you getting on with your CS vs MS theory? I've been expecting the thread for days...
I would sell most everything I have to get another 2600 if I lost mine. It would be worth it. Seriously. If you are truly a fan of analog monophonics, and crave early/mid seventies analog sound, it is perfect. (4012 is, anyway)

I'm afraid to type it or post it. It'll be like that time I tried to tell everyone that the TB-303 or the SH-101 were pointless.

This is relevant to my interests please tell me more. Are the women of Norway as hot as your Swedish neighbors? Also your black metal is of epic proportions.

It came with a very old manual...Everything is hand drawn.

My favorite manual because of that. The pictures make me laugh. Mainly the ones with a "human" head. Oh, and let's not forget the "if you're 2600 is not making any sound, make sure the power is on" bit.

Ha ha, pedants. :::kicks self in balls::::
I was trying to remember which the 2600 was.. I heard both monophonic and duo. I went to check VSE and it said mono so that's what I put. :P But now that you mention it, the 3620 would have 2 CV outputs into the main cabinet? I remember learning on here a while back that if you had a keyboard that contained as many CV outs as VCO's, you'd have that much polyphony. The 2600 having 3 VCO's but can utilize 2 for duo.. correct?
Well fffff.

Don't need the 2600 to read that great old manual. I have all the documentation as PDF files. Even the patch book. The 2600 is regarded as one of the best synth manuals ever written. And I agree. All those cute hand-drawings amidst machine-typed text just gives it a certain charm. And Jim was trying to explain a scientific instrument in a way that the ordinary guy could understand it. Think about it, filters and oscillators are mostly things only diehard electronics people know anything about unless they are familiar with synths. And most people weren't back in those days. So it has this looooooooong chapter on subtractive synthesis and what makes the sounds and why and how.

I have a scholarly mind, I love to read about these old things even though I don't own them myself. How they operate, all the details.

And you are right sir, our Norwegian black metal is awesome.

I don't have that model of keyboard, but my understanding is that it works on the same principle as the Sonic Six, which is that it assigns one CV output to high note priority, and one output to low note priority. These outputs would represent both the highest and lowest notes that you played, and could be used to individually control oscillators.

That's true, but as far as I know, there is no such thing as an analog CV keyboard with the possibility of more outputs than two. You would need a CV keyboard which had digital tracking to have more than two.

Hey, Bitexion... have you seen the manual for the Micromoog? It's also really good in that same way. If you ever read it, let me know what you think!

The grey version with the Moog filter is the best one as the earlier ones had the PCB's covered in plastic and you don't get the Moog ladder on the later versions.

Is the dreaded 2600 VCA thump fixed?

Behold, the Roland 184 4CV keyboard. Designed for use with the Roland System 100, although you can use it with most anything. I have a friend who has one connected to a full system 700.

I'll bet it has digital tracking.

There was still potting going on with the grey version, as well.
I have a picture of the big black block that is my 4012 filter, somewhere!

The VCA thump is made too big a deal of. It's really not that big of a thing.
