Octave Cat -problem fixed!

Post by Sir Ruff » Tue Sep 16, 2008 2:41 am

So I posted about an issue I was having earlier this year. Can't find the post for some reason, but I thought I'd follow up with the solution to my very strange problem.

I had opened up my original A-rev Cat to remove the bloody annoying calibration caps from the inside. After closing everything back up, I suddenly had no keyboard CV control... A note played when you pressed the key, but only ONE note. Tried all the usual unplugging/replugging connectors to no avail. Everything else worked as it should-just no keyboard control.

What had essentially happened was that my (apparently) slopping screwing in of the main board screws caused a short to the keyboard CV section-hence no CV. Apparently there is nothing to block the screw from accidentally connecting with the board trace, so it was not very hard to do.

So something to be aware of if you have one of these older models and need to get in there to calibrate it.
Do you even post on vse bro?

Man, you're lucky you only shorted the keyboard CV and not something more serious!

Anyway, I'm happy to hear you finally sorted it, and good work sussing out the issue all by yourself. My CAT's trimmer stoppers are stored safely in a jar right now and I doubt I'll be firing them back in any time soon - without them the CAT is a cinch to calibrate.

If only by myself! No, a new tech I've found figured it out. Was just as well that he looked at it to give it a health check, calibrate, etc. This only took about 2 weeks, versus the last guy who took about 4 months to replace a switch
