well, another thing. i wonder if u guys know the following two features of a 303: in pattern mode, u can transpose ur pattern up to one octave (unfortunately not down...). and, there's the possibility to write the step lenghts in "real time" by tapping them in while the sequencer runs...

Yeah, most people don't know about the pattern xpose on the 303. A lot of people don't know how to alter the step length either. That one took me a while to figure out myself =o] I never write in real time on the 303. But on the x0xb0x, it's quite a pleasure to do so.

about two years ago I had the chance to pick up a 303 with bag and all for around $1000 locally.. funny to think I spent the same amount (6000 nok) on a Microkorg two years earlier..

Yeah, but when they were regularly selling for around $1000...everybody thought that was really expensive... I remember when all of the x0x machines were under $1000 and still seemed expensive. It was only a few years ago.

Just put in my order for a FR Revolution R2. Its not my first choice for a 303 emulator by a long shot, but it seems to be the best unit for live use.

Also, this is the first time I've ever sold something and bought it again. I had the 1st gen Revo's when they first came out and used it a lot but dumped it when I thought I would build a x0xb0x.

x0xb0xes are selling for pretty cheap right now. $800 and under. This is a good time to buy fully completed units.

no doubt. they aren't selling too many either it seems like.

the revo has a couple of important advantages over the x0xb0x that are more pressing for me: CV in for cutoff control and patch change via MIDI. of course these things can be done on the x0xb0x, but that would require exertion of effort the remix function is nice too.

i've also heard that the revo holds its tuning better than the x0xb0x (rumour?). my old revo was very solid about keeping its tuning.

i would like to have 1 revo and 1 x0xb0x for my live rig.... but i could definitely do 2 revo's as well. with some distortion and effects, it should be easy to mask some of the revo's shortcomings (or make it worse lol).

Got my FR Revo R2 today! Forgot how much fun it is making patterns with that thing. I love the interface and the remix function. It shouldn't take long to be comfortable enough with it to use live.

What settings/effects are you guys using to get a more realistic 303 sound?
