Opinions on the echo audiofire 12?

I'm thinking of picking one up, and just want to make sure there aren't any major deal breakers or anything (driver issues on OSX, high pitched whines that get into everything you record, etc. etc.)

I'm thinking of going that route (12 line ins and outs) to give me the most possible flexibility for future expansion (hardware effects, maybe starting a small modular, being able to buy my own mic pres, etc.) and picking up a decent mic pre like a groovetubes brick or FMR RNP to start me off.
