Farfisa Synthorchestra do want

I saw this video on the tubes when I was watching Farfisa Organ video's yesterday. Man...it's made with serious amounts of awesome. Around 4:34 in the video I was like with the sound. Very haunting something I really like.

I checked out the sound demo's on synthmania and I like the Piano sound very much. The Viola it pretty cool too. I am digging the "library music" sound it has going on. It looks pretty plain preset city of course.

Anybody ever use one before? How much do they go for? The metal housed one, like in the video, looks a lot better than the fake wood one. Any weird problems with it? Some site said it should be warmed up because the mono section drifts?

They're extremely rare. There's already several people on here searching for one too. I've only come across one in my life.

Figures when I semi-gas about something, that isn't even a crazy synth, it's hard to find. I guess I should stick on the road to an ARP 2600 then. :happy6:

Well, you certainly are more likely to find a 2600. The guy I knew who had one, found it when he was living in France.

That sucks. I watched the video again augh so cool. Maybe I will get lucky eventually.

The one in the video is quite heavily processed by the sounds of it. When the do come up they tend to not go for very much. Mine was sold for $400 I believe.

As for processed the video says they used a digital delay but do you mean in addition to that something else?

Yeah they aren't but how did you like the sound in person? Did you record much with it?

Sounds cool and if a metal one came along and I had the coin I would get it. Since it's in the $400 range I dunno makes me want to go for a Juno 60 first.

The sound is great, but it is sort of a few tricks pony. I honestly would pick one up over a Juno if only because if you find one it could be years before you find another one. They excel in string synth areas. Think of it as a string synth with a small mono synth section. It does sound rather unique and I know it was used by a lot of krautrock bands. Harmonia, Cluster and Klaus Schulze come to mind as well as vangelis.

I just mean delay, reverb etc.

Yeah I would agree with you since Juno's fall from the sky but this Farfisa doesn't.

Certainly sounds nothing like a piano but I agree that it's very usable otherwise. Those analogue piano imitations have a sort of flawed-but-pleasant character.

Actually I believe pianos are classed as percussion instruments since there are hammers that hit the strings - same principle as a glockenspiel or a xylophone. Sounds a bit silly I know but this truth was drilled into me over the years by my music teachers at secondary school.
