Re: Does the sh-101 have cv/gate out?
Yes, it does. Remember the ARP 2600 video I made for you? I was controlling the ARP from the 101. The arpeggiator and sequencer info will also output, but it does not transmit key change info.
Re: Does the sh-101 have cv/gate out?
wait, does that mean it will only send cv/gate from the arp and sequencer? Will I be able to control my macbeth by playing the keyboard of the sh-101?Z wrote:but it does not transmit key change info.
thanks again

Yes you could control it fine.

thanks heath! yeah the action on the system 101 is kinda notoriously funky, so I thought it would be cool to have a better keyboard and the arp/seq

Honestly, if I were you I would go with the Pro-one. Same thing, ARP and Sequencer, but you get that awesome filter and the pro-one is more versatile than a SH-101 so you could use it a ton on it's own.
Also you wouldn't need an adaptor (SH-101 is 1/8" outputs and the Pro-one is 1/4") Small point I know...

Re: Does the sh-101 have cv/gate out?
true, I may have a lead on a pro one but then again they have bad key action for the most part and they are twice as much $. Though yes they sound really good I even kind of prefer the pro one sound over the minimoog. I've got a lead on $500 really nice sh-101 lined up tomorrow so I think that should do it for now and I've got plenty of 1/8 jacks from my systm

Re: Does the sh-101 have cv/gate out?
OKay. I had a pro-one I re did the bushings on the keybed and it felt like new. Probably one of my all time favorite mono synths. I'm just of the camp where if I can spend a little more and get something I like more then well..
The 101 is still a great synth and should work as a CV controller just fine.

Re: Does the sh-101 have cv/gate out?
$500? If you have a Midi controller, you could get a Kenton Pro-Solo for less than half of that. I think SH-101 prices are way off-kilter these days, and would not recommend one to anyone who wasn't going to mod it, like I did, and certainly not for anything over $300. Adding VCA overdrive, a Filter input and a triangle wave are the only reason I find mine interesting now.nadafarms wrote:I've got a lead on $500 really nice sh-101 lined up...
And really, it's all subjective too, because I didn't like the CEM3320 filter in the Pro~One that much. I much prefer the pair in my Voyager.
I am no longer in pursuit of vintage synths. The generally absurd inflation from demand versus practical use and maintenance costs is no longer viable. The internet has suffocated and vanquished yet another wonderful hobby. Too bad.

Re: Does the sh-101 have cv/gate out?
thanks for the good points solder, I probably should actually just buy a kenton
that would be the responsible thing for me to do... and I probably will anyway but $500 for the 101 I can get my money back on and sell it pretty easy if I don't like it, and I do think the sh-101 sound is pretty cool and I need a tb ish sound. I was looking at getting a used FR revolution again, but for cheaper I'll get the sh-101 which sounds better to me as a synth even though the sequencer is not as cool as the FR.

Re: Does the sh-101 have cv/gate out?
Oh gawd, that mod took fer frickin' ever. I had to add a ground line from the CPU common pin directly to the negative battery terminal for it to stop acting batshit crazy. That took me over a year to figure out.nadafarms wrote:You wanna mod this one for me?
I agree the 101 is one of the best for squelch. That or the MC-202, as an equivalent. I actually thought about the 202 first, based on your request, but the sequencer on it is definately an acquired taste.

It could be only me, but playing voltage controlled stuff via midi and then converting to CV somehow doesn't "feel" right.Solderman wrote:$500? The SH-101 keyboard is one of the nicest in the business, and the arpeggiator and sequencer are super useful. Having a 101 and a Pro-One here side by side I know that I would go for the 101 anytime over the Pro-One if I had a Macbeth lying around needing a keyboard
Monkey business since 2007!

Oh man, $500 is a bargain these days... and they are worth that for sure.Solderman wrote:$500? If you have a Midi controller, you could get a Kenton Pro-Solo for less than half of that. For me, a monophonic synth responding to the Kenton converter has never exhibited any latency or oddness, so maybe I'm just used to it now. Wouldn't it be cool to sequence the MacBeth from Ableton Live though? Much more control potential there, especially for linear sequencing.Sexor wrote:It could be only me, but playing voltage controlled stuff via midi and then converting to CV somehow doesn't "feel" right.
It appears I've been caught whining about gear prices again, albeit in a slightly veiled guise.JSRockit wrote:Oh man, $500 is a bargain these days... and they are worth that for sure.
